Where and when do they sail?

Alaska cruises typically sail from May through to September, when the weather is mild and the daylight lingers long into the evening. Most itineraries depart from Seattle or Vancouver, sailing past Vancouver Island and through the Inside Passage toward iconic ports like Juneau, Skagway, and Ketchikan. Longer voyages may reach Glacier Bay or even venture to the remote wilderness of the Gulf of Alaska. Most cruise lines will have Alaska itineraries for you to choose from, with varying lengths, ship sizes and port stops.

Why choose a cruise to Alaska?

A cruise is the easiest and most breathtaking way to experience Alaska’s vast wilderness. From your ship, you can pass glaciers, see whales breach, and sail through pine-lined fjords, all without packing and unpacking between destinations. Shore excursions add even more adventure, from dog sledding on icy summits, to flying in a helicopter over glaciers, to exploring Indigenous culture and Gold Rush history.

What’s our top tip?

Pack with layers in mind. Alaska’s weather can swing dramatically from sunny and warm to brisk and windy, even in a single afternoon. Versatile layers, waterproof shoes, and a lightweight jacket will keep you comfortable so you can enjoy every amazing moment on deck or ashore.
